Message from Shirley A. Havens to the Voters and Property Owners of Bear Lake Twp.
I have chosen to run for Bear Lake Twp. Treasurer and I would like to tell you a little about myself. I have lived on W. Bear Lake Rd NE for almost 4 years, have grown to love the community, have been interested in the area and trying to familiarize myself with our township. I became interested after attending a meeting concerning the road ends, left the meeting feeling there are a lot of things that are decided in the monthly meetings. I decided right then that I needed to start attending meetings, and be involved in the community, which I am doing.
I am married to Michael and mother of 3 grown children, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren about to be 8.
My work history is as follows:
I have been with my present company CROSSMARK Sales and Marketing since 1997. I started as a full-time Sales Rep. in the northern area, later the company downsized and I have been part-time since 2005. I am a certified mentor, retail rep, and team lead.
I have a financial background with Chase Bank/Kalkaska and Citizens (First Merit)/Grayling as a teller, customer service rep. Completed all computer training, auditing, partnered with vault teller for checks and balances.
I also have experience in office management and the printing industry as a graphic designer, account representative manager and typesetter.
I am a very active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. I became an Eagle Auxiliary member in 1997 at the Grayling Eagles. The offices that I have held since becoming a member are President, Vice President, Chaplain, Treasurer, Secretary, Auditor and Trustee. While at Grayling Eagles I was Bingo Chairman for 3 years, reported quarterly to the Michigan Lottery Commission, handled all monies and records. Have chaired on several fundraisers since transferring to Kalkaska Eagles, we have been instrument in fundraisers that allows us to donate to the Bear Lake Twp. Fire Dept., neighboring fire depts., KAIR, Kalkaska Animal Shelter and our annual fundraiser is to Camp Grayling Family Readiness Group to name a few.
I also am a veteran of the Women’s Army Corp. (honorable discharge) and served in Alabama and Selfridge Air Force Base, Mt. Clemens Michigan.
JUST A REMINDER:
I will be listed on the ballot as a no-party affiliation candidate for Bear Lake Twp. Treasurer, so you will have to vote for me personally not the party. I will do my best to serve the community and residents of Bear Lake Twp and will ensure decisions are made in the best interest of the residents and community. I am honest, trustworthy and a team member. Your vote is appreciated on Nov. 4th.
